Stage 6: Cataviña - Desert - ca.80km

A beautiful stage with many climbs but a rewarding landscape. Enjoy the desert but make also sure to have enough water supply.

  • Leaving Cataviña will guide you to an incredible section of big rocks on top of each other and you will think that you're on another planet.
  • Make sure to have at least 8 liters of water as there will be almost no supply on the way to Punta Prieta.
  • Directly after leaving Cataviña, there will be a big hill to get your legs warmed up!
  • after ca. 53km: Loncheria Chapala - the only store to get water and food, but with corresponding  prices
  • You are here in the heart of the Valle de los Cirios, a unique desert in the world with Cacti that only grows here. If you have enough water and food, go for a side trip into the desert and camp there for a day or two. But make sure to control the ground for snakes and scorpions. This is one of the places with the highest concentration of Rattle Snakes.
  • The biggest challenge of this stage will usually be the heat and the climbs, but it's really not necessary to go at a fast pace here, trust me!
