Stage 4: San Quintin - Loncheria 103 - 105km

This stage will lead you into the desert for the first time. Make sure to have enough water with you and enjoy this first introduction of the landscape that you will see much more in the next days! The 100 km from San Quintin to Loncheria 103 can be really challenging due to several climbs in the second part of the day.
  • All flat after leaving San Quintin followed by a stretch with some minor hills until the route leaves the coastline. From this point, after ca. 45 km, the stage becomes quite hilly and you will face several climbs, none really hard, but in their sum hey are challenging.
  • The stretch along the Coastline can also be challenging, depending on the wind. Coming from the north, it will help you, coming from the south, it will slow down your ride drastically.
  • Another climb getting into El Rosario. Stay here for the night or fill up your water bags and food supply before you head into the desert. And please: take a picture of the sign indicating that there will be no gas station for the next 318km and no hotel for 115km.
  • Make sure, that there is enough daylight left when leaving El Rosario. The part between El Rosario and Loncheria 103 is really demanding and has several challenging climbs. Don't expect to make fast progress here. If it's getting too late, just camp somewhere along the road, making sure to get away from the Highway and control the ground for rocks, as they are possible places for snakes and scorpions to hide under.
